- Never Cry Wolf; by Farley Mowat (a man lives in the Canadian wilderness and studies the behavior of wolves)
- Into the Wild; by Jon Krakaeur (about the life of Chris McCandless, who hitchhikes and wanders across North America for two years, before tragically dying of starvation in the Alaskan wilderness)
- Hucleberry Finn; by Mark Twain (a major influence on my interest in travel)
- The Secret Hunters; by Ranulph Fiennes (one of the most gripping reads ever)
- Shantaram; by Gregory David Roberts (amazing fictionalized story of an escaped Australian convict's life in underworld Bombay)
- Dove; by Robin L. Graham (true story of a 16-year-old boy who sails around the world solo)
